Welcome to Home Helpers

Home Helpers is a non-medical, in-home personal care service provider. The Elgin area Home Helpers is owned by Kathy Petrick.  We provide individual and specialized care plans for each client and place caregivers with those who require additional assistance: whether to live independently, they're recovering from illness or disability, new moms, or require continuing or hospice care. Vitally important Respite Care for families to relieve stress, maintain comfort and restore a sense of balance in their everyday life is also available. Services as little as three hours a week assistance all the way up to 24-hr live-in care are available.

Non-medical home care is a unique and less expensive alternative to traditional home health care. Home Helpers can assist people at home who may not require nursing care and can be a great supplement if someone needs more intensive medical attention.

A sample range of our services include, but are not limited to; light meal preparation, laundry, transportation for medical or social appointments, activities of the mind and body for Alzheimer’s and Dementia, shopping, light household services, medication reminders, and personal care (i.e. bathing, dressing & feeding). Caregivers offer companionship through joyful conversation, playing cards, or even plant flowers in the spring.

I conduct a complementary home consultation to discuss the ongoing needs and concerns a person may be having. We ask that after the initial consultation the family gives us 24-48 hours to develop a Care Plan to address the needs of a loved one, and a Caregiver is carefully hand-selected if Home Helpers is chosen.

Home Helpers is licensed by the State of Illinois, insured and bonded. Most of my caregivers are State Certified Nurses Assistants (CNA’s) or trained Caregivers who have passed all required training given by me and required by the State of Illinois.

Every employee has been fingerprinted through the State Police, trained, and passed a thorough a drivers license check.  All social security numbers are checked against their background information to as a second line of safety for my clients.

Meet Our Staff Minimize

Kathy Petrick is the owner and president of a Home Helpers branch that services the Elgin, IL area. Kathy and her husband, Dan opened Home Helpers the summer of 2008. Since then she became a  Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)® and has been a speaker at various community groups presenting topics such as home safety and how seniors can remain independent in their own homes. These are common issues, but she sheds new light on these old issues.

Kathy's background is in Social Work and Behavioral Science. She utilized that education by working on the diagnostic team at a facility for developmentally disabled adults. She has a compassionate heart and wants to enable people to live in the comfort of their own home and remain independent.

Kathy has always been actively involved in the community. In Sugar Grove, Illinois she served on the Board of Trustees and as a member of the Lions Club. She was also the chair for the Sugar Grove Corn Boil two years in a row.

Megan Kirkland is a Case Manager and Administrative Assistant at Home Helpers. She spends time meeting potential and current clients and their families discussing what the best cours e of care is for that individual.  She also enjoys spending that time getting to know the individuals on a more personal level to understand their unique situations better.  She also helps keep things running smoothly in the office and occassionally speaks to community and church groups on issues relating to the Senior Community.

Megan has a background in Family Ministry and Counseling. She spends a lot of her free time as a volunteering as a mentor for high school girls through her church and through service projects in the community.
